The Great Indiana State Fair, which runs August 6-17, 2008, is the sixth oldest state fair in the United States. Agriculture has been the focus of the event since 1852.
The Great Indiana State Fair opens today, August 6 and runs through August 17, 2008. The sixth oldest State Fair in America originated in 1852, showcasing agricultural exhibits of the farmers. The state fair is a great summertime family outing, with entertainment, livestock, exhibits, food, midway rides, educational events, contents, music and games. The 2008 Indiana State Fair features the "Year of Trees". The Indiana State Fair is held at O'Reilly State Fairgrounds in Indianopolis.
New Entertainment for 2008
The Great Indiana State Fair features new entertainment for 2008. Following are some of the newest exhibits at the fair.
Indiana State Fair Covered Bridge: The State Fair Bridge is a permanent structure constructed on Indiana Hardwoods after the famous Parke County bridges. The bridge is located on the northwest side of the campus.
Olympics of the Forest Lumberjack Show presented by Toyota Trucks. The lumberjack show features four of the strongest lumberjacks in the country demonstration log rolling, cross cut sawing and ax throwing. There are three shows per day.
Indiana's Got Game! Exhibit. The exhibit in the Grand Hall features sports, including baseball, basketball, football and hockey.
Home & Family Arts Third Floor Art Showing
Comcast presents Marcan Tigers of India. The tigers put on an educational show at Riley Fun Park.
Greenhouse: This is a new addition to the campus. The Greenhouse is near the Normandy Barn, which is now on the north side of the fairground.
Garfield presents "Happy Birthday to Me" Garfield the Cat, who was created by Indiana cartoonist Jim Davis, is celebrating his 30th birthday this year. Garfield will be seen throughout the fair,including the Daily Parade and that the Garfield show in the Farm Bureau Building.
International Circus Hall of Fame. The Zoppe Family is featured at the circus shows three times a day in Riley Fun Park of Kids.
Special Events
Giant Hot Air Balloon Race presented by Indiana Propane Gas Foundation: August 6.
Harness Racing: Indiana and Grand Circuit standard bred horses race around a one mile track. Harness racing is an event that has taken place at the Indiana State Fair for 82 years. Harness Races take place August 14 and August 16.
Fiddle Contest: August 9.

Hoosier Millionaire Show, August 14
Queen Pageant: August 17
Open Car Show: Over 100 classic cars will be on Main Street. August 17.
Demotion Derby and Fireworks, presented by Lucas Oil. August 17.

Gate Admission is $8. Children 5 and under are admitted free.
Discount Tickets can be purchased in advance for $7. Tickets are available at Indiana Wal-Mart Stores, CVS Pharmacy, the Marten House Hotel and Indiana Far Bureau offices.
Sunday, August 17 is Armed Forces & Veteran's Day: Free admission with Military ID.
